Chemical Properties:
It is a transparent light yellow-orange oil at room temperature and pressure, and has a certain degree of hygroscopicity. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate is an imidazole ionic liquid that is miscible with acetone, acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, isopropanol and dichloromethane, but immiscible with n-hexane, toluene and water.
Usage:
1.As a reaction medium for the preparation NH4TiOF3 mesocrystals, which are converted into TiO2 based nanostructures.
2.As a working fluid along with 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol in absorption heat pumps or chillers.
3.As an electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries and double layer capacitors.
Production method: In a dry reactor, 1-methylimidazole and 1-chlorobutane are mixed in a molar ratio of 1:1.1, and the resulting reaction mixture is stirred at about 60°C for a reaction time of about 108 hours. The 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium thus obtained is washed with ethyl acetate. In the second step, the above mixture is used to treat the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium obtained in the previous step with 65 ml of HBF4 and a few ml of water so that the BF4- ions replace the chloride ions. The resulting reaction mixture is stirred overnight, and then the reactants are dissolved in dichloromethane, washed with water, and finally evaporated under vacuum to obtain the target product molecule 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate.
