Introduction

Easy to absorb moisture. Very soluble in polar solvents (such as ethanol), and its ethanol solution is stable. Decomposes when exposed to air. The color gradually darkens after long-term storage. Decomposes into sodium hydroxide and ethanol when exposed to water. It can be obtained by reacting absolute anhydrous ethanol with metallic sodium and then evaporating the ethanol. The industrial product is often an ethanol solution of sodium ethoxide (the content is generally 17%), which is obtained by reacting ethanol with sodium hydroxide and adding benzene for azeotropic distillation, so that benzene, ethanol and water form a ternary azeotrope, and after removing the water generated during the reaction, the benzene is evaporated to obtain it.
